Hi, my name is Lindsay, creator of A Taste of Sparkle. The purpose of this blog is to show others (and myself!) that maintaining a healthy lifestyle while in college is possible! I intend to focus on my daily struggles, awesome discoveries, and living a balanced, healthy lifestyle.

after a hike!

As you know, I am a college student. I’m concentrating on Biology, English, and French with hopes to eventually go on to graduate school in the health field: vet school and nutritional science are the front runners right now. I’m very interested in nutrition and its impact on tumor growth and cancer.

Alzheimer’s Disease is a cause close to my heart because my grandmother suffers from it, and it is heartbreaking to lose a bit of her each and every time I see her. I intend to run my first half-marathon to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.

I have previously struggled with disordered eating, anorexia, and bulimia. I entered treatment in June 2008 and am working on keeping that my first and last time in treatment. The food blogging world has been very helpful and inspiring to me in my journey toward a healthy lifestyle. I no longer engage in calorie-counting, don’t weigh myself nearly as often as I used to, and am slowly learning to listen to my body’s hunger and fullness cues. I still have some rough days, but when I do, I will post about the strategies I used to get through them. Not everyone can relate to having an eating disorder, but I’m sure almost everyone can relate to having a “down day” where thoughts of food, body image, and weight seem to dominate and sap away happiness. These days won’t disappear, but I promise they will get less and less – they have for me!
